Women’s Track League

At Herne Hill Velodrome

Fast, friendly, fun racing

Herne Hill Velodrome’s (HHV) Women’s League, supported by Condor, is an accessible and competitive series of five race events that take place between April and September every year.

It caters for riders of all levels of fitness and experience, with three ability-based categories and a race programme that includes a varied array of track races; from short, sharp sprint events through to longer bunch races.

There’s something for everyone, whether you’ve been competing for years or are new to track racing and working your way through our track pathway.

Dates for 2025 will be announced before the end of the year – be the first to hear.

Yes, it is for you.

The HHV women’s track pathway (below) shows the simple steps you could take to go from complete beginner to Women’s League racer, and it’s got nothing to do with speed.

Explore our women’s sessions in the dropdown’s or get in touch if you’re not sure which one’s are for you. As usual we’ll run race workshops before each league round, so you get coached through the races before they happen – dates tbc 2025.

Please note we also have a range of open adult sessions.

Experience

Racers should either have previous experience of track racing or have been attending our Women’s session race workshops, Intermediate Training or Race Training sessions.

Not sure if you’re ready to race? Just chat with your coach or contact us.

  • A – Is our fastest category for regional and national level racers and those who have progressed from the B Category. Either HHV Race Accreditation or a UK Track Accreditation, (e.g. Lee Valley Stage 4), must ride their own bike.

B –  Is our middle category with medium speed racing for local-level racers and those who have progressed from the C Category. Either HHV Race Accreditation or a UK Track Accreditation, (e.g. Lee Valley Stage 4), must ride their own bike.

C – Is our entry level racing for newer racers, including first timers! Minimum intermediate accreditation from HHV and these riders can race on a rental bike.

    • We ask that racers select the category which is most appropriate for them, however we reserve the right to change a rider’s category if we deem it appropriate to do so. If the entries for your chosen category are full on any given night, please do not enter another category.

    • We do allow riders to move up (or down) to another category during the season.

    • To know if it’s appropriate to move up to the category above, we recommend using the following criteria: In order to move up a category, riders will need to have won and frequently scored top 3 positions in a variety of races, over a number of weeks, using a range of tactics (eg. Scoring from bunch sprint / Scoring from a breakaway / Scoring from a solo attack) before they are ready to move up – particularly from the Cs to the Bs.

If you’re still not sure which category could be for you please get in touch or chat to your coaches.

  • All riders must have a valid race licence in order to race. This can either be a full, provisional or day race licence provided by British Cycling. For more information take a look at the British Cycling membership info pages.

    A & B categories (cat)

Day licences cost £5 (provisional licence holders) or £10 (non members)

A category races will be eligible for British Cycling ranking points: points will not be awarded for racers on a provisional or day licence.
